NBA DFS Picks: Building Blocks, Monday, June 14

Yahoo Play of the Day — Joel Embiid: Philadelphia 76ers at Atlanta Hawks

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 50.12 | DraftKings: 51.78

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 37.2% | FanDuel 27.6% | DraftKings 37.2%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $48 | FanDuel $11,200 | DraftKings $10,500

Though the first three games of this series, Joel Embiid has been a revelation. In these games he is averaging 35.5 minutes, 20 field-goal attempts and an eye-popping 15.7 trips to the free-throw line. This has worked out to 35.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.7 combined blocks/steals for a whopping 63.1 Yahoo fantasy points. Atlanta will likely be extra scrappy tonight trying to even the series before it heads back to Philadelphia for Game 5. Embiid is a top NBA DFS pick in all formats Monday.

Paul George: Los Angeles Clippers vs. Utah Jazz

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 49.42 | DraftKings: 52.32

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 48.8% | FanDuel 50.6% | DraftKings 54.4%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $38 | FanDuel $9,200 | DraftKings $8,600

Once again, there is a significant salary discount for Paul George over Kawhi Leonard that is between 14 and 18% depending on the DFS site of choice. Looking at it from a raw-dollar perspective, it is a $1,400 difference on DraftKings and a hefty $2,000 discrepancy on FanDuel. Despite what one may have gleaned from DFS Twitter, George has been a solid option, with 40-plus fantasy points in seven of his 10 postseason games. The Clippers are down 2-1 and are going to do everything they can to secure the equalizer tonight. Donovan Mitchell is expected to play, so this should once again be a spirited game with George and Leonard in the 40- to 43-minute range.

Good Value

Nicolas Batum: Los Angeles Clippers vs. Utah Jazz

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 23.95 | DraftKings: 24.12

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 45.2% | FanDuel 38.2% | DraftKings 43.6%

  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $13 | FanDuel $5,700 | DraftKings $4,500

Coach Tyronn Lue has been content to utilize Nicolas Batum as the nominal center in order to get another scorer on the court. Ivica Zubac is not even seeing 100% of his time on the court with Rudy Gobert, which has been an interesting development. Zubac’s inability to defend on the pick-and-roll has limited him to just over 13 minutes each of the last two games. While Batum is not going to rack up the fantasy points, he contributes a little bit of everything and should be on the court for enough minutes to accumulate mid-20s fantasy points with upside for 30. He just needs a couple steals and his somewhat limited field-goal attempts to keep dropping.

Risky Value

Philadelphia 76ers at Atlanta Hawks

Danny Green went down with a calf injury in the first quarter, and he is going to miss at least the next two weeks. While that does leave a void to fill, who knows how coach Doc Rivers is going to approach this situation? In all actuality, he likely is not even sure what he will do after naming a starter. When Green went down, Matisse Thybulle came in to replace him and work with Ben Simmons to defend Trae Young. Of course, when that duo is on the court, it means suddenly Embiid is the third-best 3-point shooter in addition to being the primary scorer. Seth Curry’s minutes will likely remain the same, though he may see a few more field-goal attempts going his way depending on who he shares the court with. Furkan Korkmaz got the hot-hand minutes, but those could just as easily end up with Shake Milton or even George Hill in an extreme situation.

Yahoo Daily Fantasy Basketball Discount Dandies

  1. Danilo Gallinari: ATL vs. PHI – $13

  2. Furkan Korkmaz: PHI at ATL – $10

  3. Seth Curry: PHI at ATL – $15

Final Thoughts on the Monday, June 14 NBA DFS Slate

The only real curveball is the status of Mike Conley, who has not taken the court in nearly two weeks. Keep in mind that salaries and scoring formats differ across the various fantasy sites, and a slam-dunk play on Yahoo may be a below-average NBA DFS pick on DraftKings or FanDuel.
