NBA Daily Fantasy: Towns a good bet against Grizzlies
Blue-Chipper: Karl-Anthony Towns, C ($53)
Before Karl-Anthony Towns got ejected for fighting with Joel Embiid in Philadelphia last Wednesday, he was averaging 68.2 fantasy points through three games. The 2015 first overall pick has been exceeding expectations with his hot shooting and lockdown defence (53 percent from 3-point range, 2.5 steals and 1.8 blocks).
He returns from his two-game suspension to a favourable matchup against a Grizzlies team that’s allowed 117.3 points per game, sixth worst in the NBA. They also rank 25th in the league with 18.3 turnovers per game and 23rd with 5.8 blocks allowed.
Going up against Jonas Valanciunas, Towns should be able to stretch the floor and force JV out of his comfort zone on the three-point line opening the door for plenty of scoring opportunities.
Plan B: Andre Drummond ($50)
Value Play: Wendell Carter Jr., C ($18)
The Bulls big man is averaging 30 fantasy points so far this season despite logging just 28 minutes per game.
While the defensive stats are still lacking, he’s taken a jump offensively in his sophomore year going from 10.3 to 14.6 points per game.
He’s played with consistency so far this season scoring no less than 23.4 fantasy points over the first seven games and has established himself as a key cog in the Bulls’ young core.
Atlanta has been the seventh easiest defence against the centre position this season and is allowing 14.8 second chance points, fifth most in the NBA currently. They’re likely to struggle in their first game without John Collins, who’s been handed a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA’s Anti-Drug policy.
Plan B: Kyle Lowry ($31)
Bargain Bin: Bruce Brown, SG ($15)
There are injuries galore as Detroit goes up against the Knicks without three of its point guards: Reggie Jackson, Derrick Rose and Tim Frazier.
Next man up is Bruce Brown who posted back-to-back career-high fantasy performances (43.9 and 40.9) in two spot starts averaging 37.5 minutes across both contests.
Brown doesn’t necessarily hold long-term value but has temporarily become the team’s third scoring option behind Andre Drummond and Luke Kennard.
Up against a Knicks backcourt that’s ranked in the bottom-half of defence this season, the second-year guard has a chance to provide sneaky value due to depth chart issues.
Plan B: Isaiah Thomas ($12)
