NBA's tallest player ruled out after hitting his head on a ceiling

Concussion ruled the NBA’s tallest player out of Boston Celtics’ season-opening match after he hit his head on a low ceiling.

Tacko Fall, an imposing 7ft 5in in height at the age of 23, hit his head following a training session - while trying to wash his hands.

The Senegalese centre, one of the tallest men to ever play in the NBA, reportedly felt fine immediately following the knock, saying he thought nothing of it.

He reported feeling ill the next morning, though, and entered the league’s concussion protocol.

"Tacko got hit in the head yesterday after individual work," Boston coach Brad Stevens said. “He was a little under the weather. It sounds like being very cautious about that."

The former University of Central Florida star ultimately missed the match against Philadelphia 76ers, a match which Boston lost 107-93.

Fall, though, was not expected to play against the Sixers - although he did travel with the team to Philadelphia. He is currently seen as a development player who will spend his season working in the NBA’s second-tier G League.

"[He's] very close [to a return] from what I’ve been told," Stevens added after the defeat. "But he wasn’t going to [play against the Sixers] anyway."

Fall set all-time records at the NBA draft combine for tallest height in shoes (7ft7in), largest wingspan (8ft 2.25in) and highest standing reach 10ft 2.5in).

Only Gheorghe Mureșan, Manute Bol, Shawn Bradley and Yao Ming have been listed as taller players in the entire existence of the NBA.
