Nation's longest high school football winning streak ends as Fyffe upset by Geraldine

Fyffe's winning streak came to an end at 51 games Friday night when the Red Devils lost on the road at Geraldine, 20-19.

Fyffe, which has won three consecutive state championships, fell to 6-1, 4-1 in Class 3A Region 7 play when Jackson Colvin threw a 35-yard go-ahead score to Colton Lusher for Geraldine (5-3, 4-1) with 5:14 left in the game.

The Bulldogs were able to intercept a pass with less than two minutes left to secure the victory.

The loss was the first for the Red Devils since Nov. 24, 2017, a 35-28 loss to Sulligent in the Class 2A third round of the playoffs. It was the first regular-season loss since a 21-14 loss to Cleveland on Sept. 4, 2015.

The Red Devils also had a close call against Sylvania in Week 3.

Fyffe took a 19-14 lead in the beginning of the fourth quarter on the third touchdown run of the game by Kyle Dukes.

Fyffe scored first on a 40-yard run by Dukes in the first quarter, but Colvin hit Lusher for a touchdown pass before the half.

Dukes' 13-yard touchdown to begin the fourth quarter gave the Red Devils a 19-14 lead, but Fyffe could not convert the two-point attempt.

Besides the interception to cap it, the Red Devils also lost a fumble. Geraldine did not commit a turnover.

Fyffe outgained Geraldine 266-161.

Dukes had 24 carries for 109 yards and Logan Anderson added 16 rushes for 135 yards.

The victory for the Bulldogs was the first over the Red Devils since 2013, snapping a three-game losing skid.

Fyffe’s 51-game winning streak was the second-longest in AHSAA history The record for consecutive wins is 55, set by Clay County from 1994-97.

The Red Devils will play at Asbury next week.
