Nate Diaz is back in the UFC after a nearly three-year layoff from his last fight against Conor McGregor. In case you were worried Diaz had changed at all during that extended break, just know that one of his first moves was to publicly light up a joint at a UFC event.

The welterweight, set to take on Anthony Pettis at UFC 241 on Saturday, started smoking to a cheering crowd during an open workout.

Diaz, ever the man of the people, then passed the joint to the crowd.

Per ESPN’s Marc Raimondi, Diaz said the joint was only CBD, a cannabinoid derived from marijuana that is legal in the UFC’s anti-doping policy. It’s so legal, the UFC actually has its own CBD sponsorship, something Diaz has noted. In a nifty bit of cross-promotion, the joint comes from Diaz’s own Game Up Nutrition.

This is not the first time Diaz has done something like this, as he actually got into hot water right after his last fight when he started vaping while speaking with the media following his loss to McGregor.

Like he did on Wednesday, Diaz claimed in 2016 that the joint was CBD, though his brother Nick later contradicted him in an interview. So this could be going a few ways.

Let’s take a live look at UFC president Dana White as it plays out.
