Nashville Superspeedway needs momentum in Year 2 of return to NASCAR

Happy Sunday morning! This is trending sports writer Nick Gray.

It’s race day at Nashville Superspeedway for the NASCAR Cup Series!

With the new Next Gen car, the racing in the NASCAR Cup Series has been a great deal better this season outside of the short tracks.

That should continue on Sunday. Denny Hamlin is on the pole, with Joey Logano starting 2nd. If I were a betting man, I’d keep an eye on the two Trackhouse Racing drivers, Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez. Chastain is having a breakout season, while Suarez won his first career Cup Series race two weeks ago at Sonoma. Both start inside the top 10.

The track is hoping for smoother traffic on Sunday, and it could also use some weather luck. Ticket sales, though, are lagging behind last year's sellout in the second year of NASCAR's return to the market. Nashville Superspeedway needs to build some momentum on and off the track.
