N. 75th Street reopened after crews extinguish grassfire east of Boulder

Mar. 7—Boulder County officials reopened N. 75th Street after emergency crews contained and extinguished a grass fire east of Boulder. No one was injured in the blaze.

The fire, which started as a controlled burn, was in the 2500 block of N. 75th Street in unincorporated Boulder County, between Arapahoe and Valmont roads east of Boulder, according to a Boulder County Sheriff's Office news release. Dispatchers started receiving calls about a possible grass fire in the area at 11:30 a.m.

When fire crews arrived, they learned the burn that was being conducted on private property got out of control when winds from the east picked up and pushed the fire toward N. 75th Street, the release stated.

Sometime after noon dispatchers said crews were able to extinguish the fire and were mopping up the scene

Officials closed that portion of N. 75th Street to protect firefighters who were fighting the flames near the road's edge. The closure lifted about 12:45 p.m., the release stated.

Several crews remain on scene tending hot spots.

The release stated the property owner properly notified officials in advance of the controlled burn Sunday morning. Three acres of agricultural grassland were burned, and there were no injuries or structure damage reported.

Mountain View Fire, Boulder Rural Fire, Lafayette Fire and Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks also responded to the fire.
