Akron home hit with second fire this month; another home burns Thursday
Akron firefighters responded to a fire shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday at 1124 Myra Ave. in the city's Goodyear Heights neighborhood.
Firefighters said the house was fully engulfed when they arrived. This was the second fire this month at that address, an apparently vacant house. The first fire took place on Jan. 10.
No injuries were reported, according to an Akron Fire Department news release.
Firefighters also were called to a residential fire reported at 5:45 a.m. Thursday at 88 E. Dresden Ave. in the Firestone Park neighborhood. One person from the home was taken to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross was called to help two adults and three children displaced by the fire.
Firefighters had to cope with deep cold as temperatures were near or below zero, and needed a salt truck at Myra Avenue because of ice formation.
Firefighters remained on scene at both locations as of 8:45 a.m. Crews were assigned to the Myra Avenue site for fire watch.
The causes of both fires are being investigated, the fire department said.
