On a day in which hundreds of players across the NFL are being removed from rosters, the Jacksonville Jaguars are ensuring one of their own will be around for a while.

The Jaguars are in agreement with linebacker Myles Jack on a four-year, $57 million extension with $33 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The deal will make Jack the league’s third-highest paid inside linebacker, and approximately matches the one that Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion Jones signed earlier this offseason.

Jack was previously slated to hit free agency after this season. Still up for possible extensions on the Jaguars defense are Pro Bowlers Jalen Ramsey and Yannick Ngakoue.

Myles Jack still central to Jaguars defense

The Jaguars made a risky pick for Jack by taking him in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft despite his UCLA career ending with a torn meniscus and concerns he could require microfracture surgery on the knee in the future.

Jack has since rewarded that faith, establishing himself as a central pillar of the Jaguars’ defense over the last two years, racking up 197 tackles, 4.5 sacks and four pass deflections in that span. He hasn’t made a Pro Bowl yet, but he still has plenty of potential at 23 years old, the age of many prospects in this year’s draft.

The Jaguars will be leaning even more on Jack to produce this year due to fellow inside linebacker Telvin Smith taking this season off from football.
