MyKayla Skinner, the oldest gymnast on the United States' women's team, had a long road to the Tokyo Olympics.
It's a journey that took nearly a decade. Skinner wasn't selected to compete in the 2012 Olympic Trials and then came a step closer in 2016, being chosen as an alternate for the Rio Games, but not an official spot on the team. Now, she has an Olympic silver medal.
When she had a chance to qualify for Tokyo this year, she placed fifth in the all-around and was named as the plus-one specialist. While she didn't participate in the team competition, she traveled with the U.S. to Tokyo as an individual competitor. She replaced Simone Biles in the vault final and won silver.
Biles did not compete in the vault or uneven bars finals.
