A Muskego man has been charged in a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a Greenfield boy

A 34-year-old Muskego man has been charged in a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a Greenfield teen.

Walter Grebe was charged Friday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with a felony count of hit and run causing great bodily harm.

Trevor Le-Morrison, a junior at Greenfield High School, was injured in the crash May 21 on West Loomis Road near West Edgerton Avenue.

According to the criminal complaint:

A large group of teens were in the area having a water gun fight that night and Le-Morrison was being chased by someone with a water gun, one of the participants told police.

Le-Morrison ran into the roadway after being chased, and did not see a car traveling eastbound on West Loomis Road and was struck.

The driver of the SUV never stopped, the witness said.

A license plate from the vehicle was left at the scene, as were pieces of a "J" and "P" consistent with a Jeep vehicle.

A check of the plate by police showed it listed to an address on 60th Street, and a woman at the address told police that Grebe, her boyfriend, was the driver.

Police arrested Grebe at the residence on May 22.

Grebe told police he had been at a volleyball tournament since noon on May 21, saying he was there all day and had only two drinks.

He said he dropped off two friends, was heading home and had just turned onto West Loomis Road from Edgerton Avenue and the crash happened "really quickly" after that.

Grebe said there "seemed to be a party happening almost in the road" and that he hit something.

He told police he did not know exactly what he hit and went into "fight or flight mode," saying he knew "whatever he hit, he hit really hard."

Grebe said he then drove to Potawatomi so that he could leave the vehicle where there would be lots of other cars.

He called an Uber to pick him up, but when he saw police were there, he had the Uber driver drop him off around the corner. He spent the night at a park and went back to the house about an hour before police arrived.

Le-Morrison remains hospitalized and is being treated for a broken collarbone, fractured vertebrae, two broken femurs, internal bleeding and other injuries. He is currently in serious but stable condition.

If convicted, Grebe could face up to 15 years in prison and be fined up to $50,000. He also could have his operating privileges revoked for two years and possibly face other driving restrictions.

Grebe's initial court appearance is scheduled for June 10, according to online court records.
