MUELLER GLOW: OKWU teams battle visiting Friends

Oklahoma Wesleyan University's men's basketball team offered its fans a healthy portion of Wesleyan Stir-Fried Falcon during the Eagles' home win Thursday against Friends (Kan.) University, 78-52.

The Falcons felt the fiery breath of the Eagles, who lit up the Mueller Fieldhouse with pyretic intensity and scorched the nets down to stubble.

Led by Dylan Phillip and Amari Woods, OKWU bombed the rim with 10-of-22 three-pointers. Both Phillip and Woods corded 3-of-3 from downtown.

Woods canned a team-high 13 points during a balanced attack that saw six Eagles score six-or-more points.

Brandon Bird and Derrick Talton Jr. both added 11 points, followed by Jaden Lietzke and Phillip with nine apiece.

Taylen Miller made a stellar contribution (five points, five assists) and Talton pilfered four steals.

OKWU improved to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Next up, the Eagles travel Saturday to Salina, Kan., to play Kansas Wesleyan.

LADY EAGLES

OKWU women brought out the defensive gate, but just couldn't get their offense on-track as they fell to a very strong Friends team, 48-43.

Friends nailed only one three-pointer and scored approximately 20 percent of its points from the three-point line.

Taylor Jackson dialed in 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Friends (8-2, 4-1), while Rayland Garner added 10 points off the bench.

For OKWU (3-7, 2-3), Ty'Najah Mitchell turned in one of her best offensive outputs (17 points, 5-of-11 three-pointers), while Sydnee Schovanec added 13 points.

Schovanec has scored in double-figures in four of the last five games.

The Lady Eagles play at 5 p.m.. Saturday at Kansas Wesleyan College.
