Owners and workers toiled through the week and got enough equipment functional that Mr. Ronnie's Famous Hot Donuts could open Friday, a few days earlier than expected.

The popular donut shop closed Saturday when a power surge ripped through the store, damaging over half the equipment. Co-owner and managing partner Bud Picou said Wednesday that Entergy was working with the business to solve the problem, and he expected that it would take three days to reopen.

"We worked all through the day yesterday," Kellen Picou, co-owner and Bud's brother, said Friday. "We were going to try to reopen on Monday, but we got enough equipment operating that we were able to reopen at 1:30 this morning."

Some equipment is still damaged, such as the outside lights and neon signs, and parts have to be specially ordered, he said.
