We know — athleticwear can be pricey. And while we love things that are sustainably and ethically made, we know that also tends to add even more onto the price of a garment.

That’s why we love MPG. This Canadian-made brand, that also happens to be sustainable and size-inclusive, offers high-quality leggings, sports bras, lounge sets, coats and more, at an already affordable price.

My pick: Swift High Waisted Recycled Polyester Legging

I paired my Swift High Waisted Recycled Polyester Leggings with a cozy turtleneck and my trusty Everlane slippers.

If you’re looking for a pair of leggings that keeps you feeling secure and supported throughout your workout, these are it. With a thick, (read: squat proof) construction made from recycled polyester, these high rise leggings have become a go-to for workouts at home. I love that they have a super high rise that stays put throughout my barre, ballet or pilates sessions, and that they offer plenty of compression for high-intensity workouts.

Size-wise, they fit true to size but do have some added length, which I was able to trim to fit my 5’3” frame with the additional seams at the ankles. I chose my regular small, which is comparable to my usual size 4-6 at Lululemon. These may not be the softest pair of leggings I’ve ever worn, but for their versatility and affordable price they’ve definitely earned a spot in my rotation of activewear essentials.

My pick: Blast-Off High Waisted Recycled Polyester Legging

Goals for 2021: Invest in a full-length mirror and ring light. Wearing MPG's Blast-Off Legging and my Everlane sneakers (featuring my pup, Delta).

Since 2020 has made all of us stuck at home something of a leggings connoisseur, I’ve become *very* picky with my leggings. That said, MPG’s Blast-Off leggings are quickly becoming my go-to staple of my WFH wardrobe. Most of my leggings are nylon or some kind spandex, however the Blast-Off leggings are made from recycled polyester that feel thicker, warmer and softer than any pair I’ve ever worn - which is perfect considering it’s freezing outside!

I wear a size 6/8 in pants and jeans, so I erred on the side of caution and ordered a medium in the leggings. In hindsight, I would have ordered a small and suggest sizing down if you’re like me and find yourself between two sizes. They pass the squat test and wash well in cold water on a delicate setting. I’ve followed care instructions and have been hang drying them only and haven’t noticed any kind of pilling or loss of shape. I’m so pleased with these leggings; they’re the perfect hybrid of activewear and loungewear.

My pick: Prosper High Waisted Reycled Nylon 7/8 Legging

The MPG Prosper leggings in black are good - my mirror is dirty and bad.
The MPG Prosper leggings in black are good - my mirror is dirty and bad.

I‘ll start by saying I am really picky about my leggings — they need to be super high-waisted, feel soft and compressive enough to keep things in place while not feeling constricting. And oh yeah, they need to be ethically made and environmentally-friendly, too. While I have been living in my Girlfriend Collective leggings throughout most of 2020, they stopped shipping to Canada due to COVID-19, which left a hole in my wardrobe (and heart). Luckily MPG saved the day with their Prosper High Waisted Reycled Nylon 7/8 Legging.

Not only are these leggings made from recycled nylon that’s ethically-sourced, but they also offer a lot of features you typically won’t find in this price range, like moisture-wicking material and exterior side pockets. The high waist and thick waistband combined with sleek side pockets make them as flattering as they are functional, which isn’t easy to come by.

The 7/8 length of these is also super flattering — I’ve been wearing them around the house with massive cozy socks but they look just as good with sneakers or Blundstones when I’m out and about. I went with my usual size small and loved the fit, particularly how they don’t gape at the waist which I find a lot of leggings do.

These leggings have definitely earned a spot on my loungewear leaderboard — and if you’re looking to shop a pair of ethically-made leggings while supporting a Canadian brand, I think I’ve found your new go-to.
