Motorcyclist killed in crash on U.S. 287 in Boulder County

Jun. 28—A motorcyclist was killed after he reportedly struck an SUV while speeding through an intersection on U.S. 287 in Boulder County on Friday.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said the crash occurred at 7:36 p.m. Friday.

Lewis said the motorcyclist, a 21-year-old man from Frederick, was driving north on U.S. 287 when he struck the right rear end of an SUV trying to turn left onto Isabelle Road from southbound U.S. 287.

The motorcycle rider, who has not yet been identified by the Boulder County Coroner's Office, was declared dead on scene.

The driver of the SUV, a 31-year-old woman from Erie, was not injured. Lewis said some of her passengers reported minor injuries, but were not transported.

Lewis said investigators think that the motorcycle was speeding when it entered the intersection, and that the SUV was not running a red light.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The coroner's office will conduct an autopsy and investigation to determine the official cause and manner of death.
