Motorcyclist critically injured in crash in Nanakuli

Nov. 3—A motorcyclist was critically injured in a two-vehicle collision in Leeward Oahu early today.

Honolulu police said a red 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by a 27-year-old man was traveling westbound on Farrington Highway in Nanakuli at a high rate of speed when he lost control.

The motorcyclist crossed a grassy median and collided with a maroon 2001 Dodge Ram driven by a 49-year-old man traveling eastbound on the highway at about 4 :45 a.m.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the crash near Tracks Beach Park and administered advanced life-saving treatment to the 27-year-old. He was taken in critical condition to a hospital.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police said speed was a factor. It's unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol were factors.

Police temporarily closed the eastbound lane of the highway near Pohakunui Avenue due to the collision. Officers reopened the lane at about 7 :45 a.m.
