Mother lambastes critical race theory, says it teaches ‘hate’ and will result in the ‘dismantling’ of US

A video of a Florida mother delivering a passionate speech before the Florida Board of Education and urging it not to adopt critical race theory in its curriculum is spreading on social media.

“Just coming off of May 31, marking the 100 years of the Tulsa riots, it is sad that we are even contemplating something like critical race theory, where children will be separated by their skin color and deemed permanently oppressors or oppressed in 2021,” Keisha King said.

King, who was at the event representing Moms for Liberty, said the curriculum is inherently “racist,” teaches “hate,” and would result in the “dismantling” of the United States.

“That is not teaching the truth — unless you believe that whites are better than blacks,” King said. “I have personally heard teachers teaching CRT, and we have had an assembly shut down because a Duval County Public Schools system consultant thought it would be a great idea to separate students by race. This is unacceptable.”

King also pushed back on claims that critical race theory would help race relations, alleging that it would do the opposite.

“CRT is not racial sensitivity or simply teaching unfavorable American history or teaching Jim Crow history. CRT is deeper and more dangerous than that,” she said. “CRT and its outworking today is a teaching that there is a hierarchy in a society, where white, male, heterosexual, able-bodied people are deemed the oppressor and anyone else outside of that status is oppressed."

King continued, “That’s why we see corporations like Coca-Cola asking their employees to be less white, which is ridiculous. I don’t know about you, but telling my child or any child that they are in a permanently oppressed status in America because they are black is racist, and saying that white people are automatically above me, my children, or any child is racist as well.”

“This is not something that we can stand for in our country,” she added.

King said the blind pursuit of critical race theory and its adoption into the education system would revert progress made under the civil rights movement.

“And don’t take it from me. Look at the writers of these types of publications. Our ancestors, white, black, and others, hung, bled, and died right alongside each other to push America toward that more perfect union,” she concluded. “If this continues, we will look back and be responsible for the dismantling of the greatest country in the world by reverting to teaching hate and that race is a determining factor on where your destiny lies.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had proposed a rule that critical race theory should be banned from all schools across his state, and the Thursday vote by the Florida Board of Education was on whether to adopt the measure. The board approved DeSantis's proposal.

"Instruction on the required topics must be factual and objective and may not suppress or distort significant historical events, such as the Holocaust, and may not define American history as something other than the creation of a new nation based largely on universal principles stated in the Declaration of Independence,” the rule said without specifically identifying critical race theory.

DeSantis's office told Fox News that the rule intentionally excluded the term "critical race theory" because "CRT isn't the only issue."

The Republican governor also addressed the board ahead of the vote, saying that critical race theory was not grounded in facts and urging against its adoption.
