Montravius Adams bumps Tyson Alualu on Steelers depth chart
It isn’t often the Pittsburgh Steelers update their depth chart in the season unless there is some sort of catastrophic injury. But this week we noticed that Montravius Adams had moved up to first-team nose tackle ahead of Tyson Alualu.
Head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about the change at his Tuesday press conference and he explained it simply that Adams has been playing better. On Thursday against the Cleveland Browns, Alualu played 39 snaps whereas Adams only played 15. The Steelers’ run defense took its lumps against the Browns’ run game powered by Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.
Hopefully getting Adams on the field more will help stiffen up the run defense. This week the Steelers take on the New York Jets who have two very good backs in Michael Carter and Breece Hall. Adams looked good last season in limited action and deserved an expanded role.
