Monroeville edged in another close loss

Nov. 27—MONROEVILLE — The Monroeville boys basketball team lost a pair of games by a combined six points following Saturday's 70-66 loss to visiting Bucyrus Wynford in a non-league game inside the Monroeville Athletic Complex.

The Eagles also lost on two foul shots in the final two seconds of a 62-60 loss at Seneca East on Friday.

In Saturday's loss, Monroeville trailed 42-35 at halftime, but outscored the Royals (1-0) by four points in the third quarter to close within 54-51 entering the final eight minutes.

The two teams combined for 16 3-pointers in the game that saw Aidan Goodwin score 23 points for the Eagles. Jimmy Clingman scored 19 points, while Gabe Howell scored 12 four Monroeville, which visits New London on Thursday and hosts Danbury on Saturday.

MANSFIELD — The Roughriders used a strong first half to claim their first win of the season on Saturday with a non-league win over the Spartans.

Western (1-1) led 14-10 after one quarter and 26-17 at halftime. The teams then played to a 26-26 stalemate in the second half.

The Roughriders got balanced scoring in the win. Rhett Grose scored 14 points, followed by Chris Buchanan with 13 and Braxton Balogh with 12. Grant Bethard also added eight points for Western, which is at Plymouth on Thursday and hosts Keystone on Saturday.

NEW LONDON — The Wildcats were down 35-24 at halftime, but were outscored by 23 points in the second half of Saturday's non-league loss to the Dukes.

Gage Carroll finished with nine points for New London (0-2), while Cooper Marsh, Cameron Stevens and Conner Byrd each added six points.

New London entertains Monroeville on Thursday in its Firelands Conference opener.

NORTH ROBINSON — The Wildcats were outscored 15-4 in a costly third quarter on Saturday in a non-league loss to the unbeaten Eagles.

New London (1-2) led 17-16 at halftime before Crawford took control with three of their seven 3s in the third quarter.

Gracie Thomas had eight points and Emilee Rowland added seven for the Wildcats, who host Mansfield Temple Christian on Tuesday before entertaining St. Paul and Smithville oN Friday and Saturday.
