Michigan Wine and Beer Portal hosting pre-opening at its downtown Monroe location

The Michigan Wine and Beer Portal will hold its first Pre-opening Event this weekend. Hours are 2 to 10 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday on the patio at its location at the River Raisin Banquet Center, 8 N. Monroe St.

The event will be held outdoors only. Live music will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. today and Sunday.

“We will have Michigan-made beer, wine and hard cider as well as various Michigan-made snacks, Faygo soda, hot apple cider and charcuterie boards. We will also have games and a photo opportunity with Sterling, our friendly Monroe County winemaker. This is an outdoor-only event on our beautiful riverfront patio. Come on out for a weekend of fun and fellowship with your friends and family,” Drew Bentley, owner and sommelier, said.

In March, Bentley announced plans to create the Michigan Wine and Beer Portal at the center, which is owned by his family.

The Portal, which he hopes to open soon, will be an indoor and outdoor complex, offering a sommelier-run wine bar, chef-prepared food, a gift shop, an ice cream shop, riverfront seating and more.

Bentley has been working on the concept for years and has taken sommelier classes.
