Monday will bring coldest temps of the season to Palm Beach County. And yes, wind chill, too

A cold front will bring the coolest temperatures of the season to Palm Beach County on Sunday night and Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

With it will come a rare phenomenon for our subtropical climate: Wind chill.

Weather Service forecasters predict lows in the mid-40s Sunday in coastal Palm Beach County and the lower 40s near Lake Okeechobee.

But anyone from the North knows that wind can change the entire tune. Once the wind chill is factored in, the low in Palm Beach County on Monday morning will feel like 44 degrees to people and animals outside. Near the lake, it will feel like 37 degrees.

Saskatchewan screamer?: Make way for the Saskatchewan screamer

Highs on Sunday and Monday will be in the upper 60s.

Barry Baxter, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Miami, told The Palm Beach Post a cold front is moving east through the area and bringing a cold air mass behind it.

"It's been parked over Lake (Okeechobee) since Thursday, and now it will move south," he said.

The cold is thanks-no-thanks to a "Saskatchewan Screamer" — or burst of cold air coming from the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Sunday will be breezy and chilled, with northwest winds between 10 and 15 mph, he said.

If bundled-up boaters make it out on the water, they'll be tasked with taking on a nautical swell that will bring 6-to-8-foot waves, Baxter said.

After the cold start Monday, temperatures will stabilize and climb back toward the upper 70s for the rest of the week, NWS forecasts show.
