With the fall season upon us, many moms (and dads) are searching for new clothes and gear for children to cozy up.

Angela Presley of Panama City is offering them one huge option this weekend.

Presley is CEO of The One Week Boutique, which is returning to Tallahassee from Friday, Oct. 7, through Oct. 9 at the Tucker Civic Center. The event is expected to offer over 80,000 gently used items including baby gear, clothing, toys, and home décor priced up to 90% off.

The boutique is a large consignment sale held semi-annually at the Tucker Civic Center. As of Monday, over 600 consigners were registered to sell at the event.

“It’s a great place for people to come and bring items,” said Presley, who has worked with The One Week Boutique since 2011 and became CEO in 2019.

“The consigners choose their own pricing and it’s at super good deals,” Presley, the mother of three, told the Tallahassee Democrat.  “All the families get 60% back in sales.”

Weekend event is free, but premium tickets available for pre-event sales

While the event is free and open to the public Oct. 7-9, there are opportunities to purchase tickets to shop early and get first pick of available items.

“I saw it on Facebook, and I knew nothing about motherhood so I went the first time just to look,” said Laura Cochran, a first-time mom who will be returning to the event to shop for her 1-year-old daughter. Cochran, of Tallahassee, first attended the event in spring 2020 and bought gender-neutral baby clothes.

Sunday is the last day of shopping, and all items are priced at 50% off. Consigners have the option to pick up any unsold items or donate those items to partnering charities.

Kara Payne, a local mom, loves the option to donate her unsold items after the sale.

"It feels good knowing that you can donate and it's going to another mom, dad or child in need,” Payne said.

Payne has a 2-year-old son and started shopping the event in 2019 and has consigned twice. This year she plans to consign through the ‘Busy Mom Program’ Presley offers to ease the process of consigning for moms.

"I can compile all my stuff and give it to another mom to tag and put out,” Payne, 33, said.

The Pregnancy Help and Information Center, 1710 South Gadsden St., has been an ongoing partner with the One Week Boutique and receives various baby items and maternity items from the donations. The PHI Center offers free services and support to pregnant women and young moms.

“We love the One Week Boutique because it’s giving back to it’s community,” CEO Patti Tidwell said. “It’s one organization helping another, and we always welcome that.”

A chance to network, ‘make a few bucks’

The event has become a network for mothers to connect, share tips and shop. Many of the staff are mothers who shop and consign with the boutique and share word of it to new mothers and mothers looking for discounted quality items like cribs and strollers.

“It’s a really good place for new parents. I found out about it from other moms,” Shakayla Thompson said. Thompson is from Tallahassee and has a 2-year-old son. "The staff was very friendly and helpful since it was my first time, I didn't know what to do.”

Thompson is revisiting the sale this year as a first-time consigner and plans to sell clothes, toys and shoes for children and adults.

“It’s an opportunity to make a few bucks and whatever we don’t sell, we donate,” Thompson said.
