Two Portage County boys basketball teams earned top-ten seeds in the upcoming tournament, with brackets to be released Sunday.

Mogadore earned the top spot locally, snagging the fifth seed (out of 39 teams) in Division IV East. The Wildcats have 12 wins and just gave the second seed, Warren JFK, a tremendous battle Friday night.

Mogadore also has an upcoming regular-season battle with the 12th seed in Division IV East, Windham. The Bombers, like the Wildcats, have racked up 12 wins and are coming off a tough loss to a very good team in Bristol (which is seeded 14th).

Ravenna got the second-highest seed locally, behind Mogadore, earning seventh out of 28 teams in Division II East. The Ravens, who with 15 wins have already doubled last year's total (seven) and are currently atop the Metro Athletic Conference, were a 20 seed a year ago.

Ravenna is joined in Division II East by Metro Athletic Conference counterparts Streetsboro (23rd) and Field (27th).

A plurality of local teams are packed into Division III East, with five of Portage County's 12 teams seeded there.

Waterloo is the top-ranked local team in Division III East, sitting 13th, and just recorded its 13th win of the season (on Senior Night) against Mineral Ridge. The Vikings have a recent record of success in the tournament, winning the district title in 2019-2020 and earning district runner-up honors the following season.

Elsewhere in Division III East, Garfield (20th), Southeast (22nd), Crestwood (23rd) and Rootstown (24th) are all bunched tightly together.

In Division I East, Roosevelt and Aurora are seeded 30th and 37th, respectively, with the Rough Riders completing a season sweep of the Greenmen last night.
