Saturday, Sept. 25, brings us wall-to-wall baseball culminating in a nine-game main slate. Let’s get into the top MLB DFS picks for pitchers and stacks for Yahoo, DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy baseball lineups.
MLB DFS Picks: Spotlight Pitchers and Top Stacks, Saturday, Sept. 25
Yahoo Stack of the Day: Texas Rangers at RHP Chris Ellis — 4.5 implied runs
It is incredibly rare that we look to the Rangers as a stacking option in this article, however, the matchup and ballpark along with the discounted Yahoo salaries have them as the perfect compliment to Coors Field stacks. Today Chris Ellis will be taking the mound for the Orioles and though he has been serviceable, we need to remember that Baltimore clamed him off waivers after he was released last month by the Royals. In his last 14.2 innings he has 11 walks with only nine strikeouts. While he has ceded only one longball in this stretch, crooked numbers are coming and coming soon.
Adolis Garcia ($12), D.J. Peters ($13) and Nate Lowe ($17) are the trio to target with their power potential. Lowe is a little spendy and will cost us our first base slot on a loaded slate so Nick Solak ($11) and Isiah Kiner-Falefa ($12) are acceptable substitutions.
Early Slate
Philadelphia Phillies vs. RHP Wil Crowe — 5.4 implied runs
The wheels have fully come off the wagon for Wil Crowe with an 8.25 ERA in his three September starts. These have come against the Marlins, Nationals and Cubs so it is not like he has been running the gauntlet of top-shelf offenses. Across his 27 career outings, Crowe has an absurd 11.3% walk rate while allowing a .240+ ISO to batters from both sides of the plate.
Speaking of absurd, in his last 546 lefty/righty matchups, Bryce Harper has tallied a .452 wOBA and a .354 ISO with an 18.1% walk rate. Brad Miller provides much needed salary relief on DraftKings $3,800 and FanDuel $2,300. On Yahoo look to Didi Gregorius who checks in at $9 as the best discount dandy in this stack. J.T. Realmuto takes care of that pesky catcher requirement and of course Andrew McCutchen, Jean Segura and Odubel Herrera are veteran options who can round out full-stacks based on salary and positional needs.
Late Slate
Seattle Mariners at RHP Jaime Barria — 4.6 implied runs
Jaime Barria and Jose Suarez are literal mirror images of each other. Both are control pitchers who limit walks but are below average strikeout pitchers. Each allows just enough power that when the control is not there, they give up big innings. Tonight we get Barria who is the right-handed member of this tandem. On the late-slate we will of course want to focus on Coors Field and the Dodgers in Arizona, however, the Mariners can provide us with selective differentiation. There is no need for a full stack, however, looking for duos and even trios who are adjacent in the order will provide off-the-radar synergy. Mitch Haniger and Kyle Seager of course are the core options and then we can fan out by looking at lefty J.P. Crawford leading off or switch-hitter Abraham Toro who will be hitting fifth.
Spotlight Pitchers
Top MLB DFS Picks Target: RHP Corbin Burnes vs. New York Mets — 3.0 implied runs
DFS Salary: Yahoo $54 | FanDuel $11,100 | DraftKings $10,600
This is an apex salary for Corbin Burnes tonight, however, he is battling Max Scherzer and Walker Buehler for the National League Cy Young Award so seeing him with a normal workload approaching 100 pitches is likely. Even though the New York hitters are mostly healthy, they are in full on #LOLMets mode and self-destructing yet again. There are enough discounted batters that is should not be an issue working in Burnes as our ace on Saturday night.
Secondary MLB DFS Picks Target: RHP Sandy Alcantara at Tampa Bay — 4.1 implied runs
DFS Salary: Yahoo $45 | FanDuel $10,200 | DraftKings $10,000
Though he will be facing a designated hitter and Tampa Bay is one of the better offenses in the league, Tropicana still is a pitching friendly venue. Alcantra is looking to finish the season strong and he should see close to 100 pitches tonight. It is unlikely he will garner any win points, however, a quality start with 7-8 strikeouts is very much in play. Pittsburgh is a bottom two offense against lefties from a run creation and power perspective.
Early MLB DFS Picks Target: LHP Ranger Suarez vs. Pittsburgh Pirates — 3.0 implied runs
DFS Salary: Yahoo $39 | FanDuel $8,800 | DraftKings $6,600
This is a terrific matchup for Ranger Suarez who has been excellent since moving into the starting lineup. In his last six outings since being fully stretched out the southpaw has logged an impressive 1.80 ERA< 2.05 FHIP with 38 strikeouts in 36.0 innings. Even more impressive is that he has allowed only one home run in his last 53.0 innings. Of course that will come back to earth
