Video Transcript

LAJETHRO JENKINS: You see the brimless fitted, bro?

ZACH SCHWARTZ: Oh my god.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Get that weak ass [BEEP] out of here.

ZACH SCHWARTZ: Where's the brim?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: You are desperate right now.

All right, this is Dunk Bait we talk mostly basketball and a little bit of Mike Tyson today. Did y'all see what he did? Today we talk Last Dance and Josiah talks to his dad. We have to talk about this, Josh Hart rage quits Call of Duty and we talk a little bit of Mike Tyson, like I said, so.

You got a little bit of Kobe today in today's episode of the Last Dance. I don't know if I'll ever be real the fact that Kobe's not here.

ZACH SCHWARTZ: I really enjoyed seeing Michael refer to Kobe as a young Laker kid. You know, Bird and Magic walking around the locker room talking to Michael before that all-Star game, you've Kobe there and this just really needs sort of like very present clear representation of the lineage of basketball.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Saying that the back and forth in the Olympics, I mean, we've seen a lot of players before but that's all, I think that's always fun to see. You talk about Isiah and--

JOSIAH JOHNSON: Nobody in this, honestly, like everybody's talking about Christian Laetner being on the squad but how are you going to do that Isaiah? I think for me that's part of the greatest tragedy in basketball. You know, I can understand Shaq is Shaq, well, Shaq was a sophomore, I want to say going pro, and Laetner was kind of a four year guy.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: It was also interesting seeing the gambling stuff man. Like, he talked about how tired he was with like the him being a spectacle.

ZACH SCHWARTZ: You see how tired Michael is dealing with this stuff and he realized that LeBron really hasn't done anything to warrant any of this that he gets. Granted, the decision was stupid, but it wasn't any sort of gambling embarrassment. And it's insane.

JOSIAH JOHNSON: LeBron had half the stuff going on MJ was getting off, going to gamble during in-between games, partying all night, showing up to the game, hitting the cigar, whatever, disrespecting media. When MJ gets it off, it's like, OK, that's just Mike. As you gentlemen saw on Jordan doc Sunday night, MJ gave love to another famous MJ. I'm pleased to welcome five time NBA all-Star college basketball hall of Famer first John Wooden award winner and the creator of your favorite creator, my pops, Marquez Johnson. How you doing pops?

MARQUES JOHNSON: Hey, man. You know, sheltering at home my guess is the buzz word, man. But I'm doing good. I'm doing good all things considered.

JOSIAH JOHNSON: MJ's doc has taken the world by storm. You made a cameo in episode five. What did you think when you saw young MJ in his college dorm with your poster on his wall saying that you were one of his favorite players.

MARQUES JOHNSON: Well, you know, it's got to be like a career highlight for me. But I knew that already because Joe, when he shot Space Jam, I went out there and he gave me some grief about Duncan's basketball and I told him whatever I was doing I was doing something good because you had my poster on your wall in North Carolina. And MJ was like, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, you got me on that one. And you was one of my favorite players, I use to love your game.

But to hear him actually say it, you know, during the last dance was it was moving, man. I really felt feel good about it.

JOSIAH JOHNSON: And obviously for everybody who doesn't know, like I said, you're a five time NBA All-Star, two time All NBA. You know, you played against Jordan a few times, what was that like for you? Any memories stand out from you, you being on court with MJ.

MARQUES JOHNSON: Well, I think three times All NBA, but who's counting.

[LAUGHTER]

But the biggest memory was his rookie year. Came out to the sports arena, had a great young player playing for the Clippers, the team that I played on, Derrick Smith, they were going at it and I said a back screen on Michael. And Michael came to the screen with elbows up and I was like, hey, rookie, watch the elbows. And he was like, hey vet, watch the screen. Oh, OK. You know, he was brass, he was cocky even back then but just his stretch, man, he broke through a double team and hit a big and one down the stretch in that game that was the shot that sealed the deal. So he was a phenomenal player from the first time he stepped up to the court in the NBA.

JOSIAH JOHNSON: So you played MJ on the court, you guys actually got to hang out off the court too. How was MJ on the court versus MJ off the court?

MARQUES JOHNSON: Well, I mean he just had I had a great way about him. My fondest memory of that was during the 1986 All-Star game, he had a foot injury we were at the hotel at the banquet and Willie Nelson was the was the performer. We didn't want to see him so I left, Patrick Ewing, Michael Jordan waiting outside of the hotel. This guy drives up and this beat up Lincoln Continental and was like, hey, Marcus, Patrick, Michael. You all need a ride back to your hotel? We were about 20 minutes away.

So we jumped in the back, it's me, Patrick Ewing, Michael Jordan, we all kind of complemented each other on our respective games and Patrick says to Michael, Michael, don't bring that stuff inside. That's my office. And Michael says something that I'll never forget. He said, Patrick, I got a hide and seek show you haven't even seen yet. And that was Michael. He was just confident, he was funny, he was clever, and that's one of my fondest memories of hanging around Michael Jordan.

JOSIAH JOHNSON: All right, Marques, thank you for joining us on Dunk Bait. We appreciate you and stay safe. Make sure you're washing your hands and appreciate you for giving me life.

MARQUES JOHNSON: And don't touch my face. I got you, buddy. All right.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: All right, so Josh Hart is having a little trouble playing Call of Duty. He got killed and decided to destroy his keyboard. And I'll be honest, I understand it.

ZACH SCHWARTZ: I've been there, I've been there.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Especially with those, dude, the worst people in the game with those two gun wielding guys and the guy that just sprints around with the night. Bro, go play Zelda, dog. You know what I'm saying? Go play Assassin's Creed, you know. We out here [INAUDIBLE] right. Like, we don't need you out here sprinting, shaking folks. That's lame.

But I get it, bro, I get it, I get it. But I do-- did y'all look at Josh Hart? Did y'all look at him? Josh Hart is struggling, bro. He wanted to get out of that house.

JOSIAH JOHNSON: Give him a cut.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: That wasn't just the game, bro.

[LAUGHTER]

That man is tired.

JOSIAH JOHNSON: We know who's social distancing out here and who's not, so I'll give it to him though. We already know.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Oh yeah, he's fully social distancing. No quarantine, you know, things.

JOSIAH JOHNSON: I can't play none of that. I really commend you for being able to handle that.

ZACH SCHWARTZ: The best thing Call of Duty added to this game, because it allows you kind of a new way to talk [BEEP] is if you kill someone, you get to hear their microphone for three seconds as soon as you kill them. Open their microphone. So you get these people like, they just scream and it feels so good. And I've tried to flip it the other way where if I get killed, I'll just universally, I'll be like, oh no, that the [BEEP] player killed me. I've been saying that to my team.

[LAUGHTER]

LAJETHRO JENKINS: All right, so did you all see the Mike Tyson footage?

ZACH SCHWARTZ: Oh my god.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Bro, I heard Mike Tyson is trying to get into shape, where he can do, like, four round, you know, just like, recreational fights. Y'all signing in for that? Set it up for that?

ZACH SCHWARTZ: Of course. You're not?

[INTERPOSING VOICES]

Let me clarify.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: How much money would it take for you to go around with Mike?

JOSIAH JOHNSON: I don't know if there's-- I mean, look. What are you-- what are you really asking yourself? How much money would you take for like permanent brain damage? Like, you know--

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Or your life. Like, how much does your life worth?

JOSIAH JOHNSON: [INAUDIBLE] time as you're falling to the ground. So and then getting up and hugging you after, embracing you, and it's like, damn, you just whooped my ass then you embrace me. What am I supposed to do?

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Right, you saw when he hit that one dude and then hugged him so he wouldn't fall. Let me fall, that's more disrespectful, dog. You hit it me and then felt bad for me. You know what I mean. Like, you his me so hard you got sad.

ZACH SCHWARTZ: 200K. 200K, I'd get knocked out by Mike Tyson. That's the lowest I'll go.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Schwartz, you might not be able to use your, like, lower extremities anymore. Have you seen that, bro? Like, we're not built for that, bro.

ZACH SCHWARTZ: I'm certainly not built for that. Me, the [BEEP] no. No, sir. I attended to its Sunday school to be good at fighting with Mike Tyson. I'll say this, I'm glad he's doing it and it's really cool that is going to do it for charity. I just am so happy for where Mike Tyson has gotten himself in life that I don't want him to take punches and find himself going because it's all a chemical balance of the brain. I don't want him to sort of spiral back to where he was, you know, late 90s.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: Bro, this quarantine is hard enough. Why you throw that heavy [BEEP] on this, man?

ZACH SCHWARTZ: Whoa! I'm trying to be honest here. Damn, man, I'm just enjoying, we're talking about how much money it'd take to hit. I don't want Mike Tyson to spiral back into the life he used to lead. I am Lajethro Jenkins.

JOSIAH JOHNSON: King Josiah 54.

ZACH SCHWARTZ: I'm Zack Zack Zack.

LAJETHRO JENKINS: And this is Dunk Bait.
