Mizzou Tigers football picks up another defensive transfer in UNC’s Tyrone Hopper

Missouri football has added to its transfer portal haul.

Former North Carolina defensive end/linebacker Tyrone Hopper announced his commitment to the Tigers on Monday. He’s a grad transfer entering his seventh season of college football in 2022.

Hopper redshirted the 2016 season and played 996 snaps for the Tar Heels from 2017-21, according to Pro Football Focus. He started 10 games in 2020.

Listed at 6-foot-4, 245 pounds, Hopper saw time at both defensive end and outside linebacker, though he was listed as a defensive end in his Mizzou commitment graphic. He finished his North Carolina career with 61 tackles, 4.5 sacks, three pass breakups and one forced fumble.

This past season, Hopper only played one game because of injury, granting him an extra year of college football.

Mizzou has added three defensive players through the transfer portal this offseason, with Hopper joining former Oklahoma State defensive tackle Jayden Jernigan and former Clemson safety Joseph Charleston.
