Mitchell High School's Ryley Johansen, Adaya Plastow capture first-place finishes at First Dakota Relays

May 7—YANKTON — Ryley Johansen earned two of four top-three finishes by the Mitchell High School boys track and field team at the Yankton First Dakota Relays Thursday.

Johansen won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 1 inch, while also running the 200-meter dash in 23.30 seconds to finish third. Parker Phillips ran the 100 in 11.35 seconds to finish second and Bryce Palmer was also second in the 400 with a time of 53.34 seconds for the Kernels.

Wagner's Jaden Peters won the pole vault with a vault of 14 feet and Malcolm Janis was second in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 7 1/2 inch.

On the girls side, Adaya Plastow won the 300-meter hurdles in 48.76 seconds and was part of a Mitchell 4x400 relay team — along with Adelyn Prunty, Madeline Vogel and Lizzie Tyler — that finished third in 4 minutes, 22.16 seconds. Tyler was also third in the 400 in 1 minute, 1.71 seconds and Mia Mullenmeister was third in the 100 in 13.23 seconds.

Wagner's Elizabeth Woods won the 100 hurdles in 16.38 seconds.

The Kernels compete in the Al Sahli Invitational Saturday in Aberdeen.
