Mitchell cheer and dance teams conclude season at state championships

Oct. 24—BRANDON — The Mitchell High School cheer and dance programs competed for the final time this season at the State Cheer and Dance championships hosted by Brandon Valley High School on Saturday.

In the cheer competition, the Kernels took 10th place with a score of 201.5, while the dance team's mark of 247.75 points was good for 13th. The dance team's score of 266.5 points was sixth in the hip-hop category, while 229 points was eighth-best in the pom category. There were 18 Class AA teams in the cheer competition and 19 in dance.

Sioux Falls O'Gorman's 283.5 earned the cheer title, as Harrisburg (280), Sioux Falls Jefferson (277.5) and Sioux Falls Roosevelt (270) also separated themselves from the field to earn top-four honors. Hosts Brandon Valley won the dance title with 298 points, just ahead of fellow top-three teams Sioux Falls Washington (296.5) and Harrisburg (291.25). Yankton took fourth with 284.75 points.
