With Mississippi State transfer, do Missouri Tigers have a new starting quarterback?

Missouri’s quarterback competition has another candidate, Jack Abraham, and if he’s not the leader, Abraham is clearly the elder statesman.

Entering his seventh year of eligibility, Abraham told PowerMizzou.com that he will arrive in Columbia as a walk-on with an opportunity to earn a scholarship.

Missouri will be his fifth school. Abraham spent last season at Mississippi State but never saw the field after suffering a concussion and facial injury in the preseason.

Before Mississippi State, Abraham spent three seasons at Southern Mississippi. He appeared in 27 games and passed for 7,067 yards, 41 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. In 2019, when he started all 13 games, the Golden Eagles played in the Armed Forces Bowl. In 2018, he led the nation in passing accuracy at 73.1%.

Abraham played in five games in 2020 before suffering a concussion.

He started his college career in 2016 as a redshirt at Louisiana Tech and transferred to Northwest Mississippi Community College. After throwing for 2,949 yards and 23 touchdowns, Abraham signed with Southern Miss.

Connor Bazelak had been Missouri’s primary quarterback each of the past two seasons. But he entered the transfer portal after last season and landed at Indiana.

The position became a competition among Brady Cook and Tyler Macon. They combined to appear in eight games last season and each had a start, Cook in the bowl game against Army and Macon at Georgia. The Tigers also have four-star freshman Sam Horn arriving in the summer.

Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwtiz attempted to land other transfers but three who made official visits to Columbia signed elsewhere: Arizona State’s Jayden Daniels with LSU, Georgia’s J.T. Daniels with West Virginia and Baylor’s Gerry Bohanon with South Florida.

But the Tigers landed Abraham, who has one year of eligibility left.
