STARKVILLE — Mississippi State head coach Chris Jans has another piece from Ben Howland's roster coming back. Forward D.J. Jeffries is removing his name from the transfer portal, per a 247Sports report.

He entered the portal along with former MSU teammate Derek Fountain on April 15. Jeffries joins guard Shakeel Moore in returning to State after entering the portal.

Jeffries leaves Jans with three scholarships to award — a pair of which Jans hopes to nail down before June.

ROSTER CHECK: Where Mississippi State's men's basketball roster currently sits

Jeffries recorded 8.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game as a junior last season. In his first season after transferring from Memphis, he started 31 of 34 games.

He opened the season as one of State's top offensive threats — particularly from 3-point range. Jeffries shot 32.8% from deep in the first 21 games before closing the season shooting 6-29 (20.7%).

He failed to score in double figures the last five regular-season games and was benched ahead of the SEC Tournament in favor of Andersson Garcia.
