Missing dog walker’s car found near small Scottish Highland village with pet still inside

Police in Scotland have found a car belonging to a missing dog walker – with his pet still inside the vehicle.

James Paton, 72, has not been seen since leaving his home to take his dog for walk on Monday afternoon.

Mr Paton was last spotted near his home in the village of Kiltarlity, near Inverness, in the Scottish Highlands at around 1.30pm.

The man's car – a blue Dacia Duster – was found parked on a track around three miles away from his home at around 4.30pm the same day.

While his dog was found inside the vehicle, there was no trace nor sign of Mr Paton.

The missing man is 5ft 5in tall and of stout build with a grey beard and hair, and wearing glasses.

It is believed he was wearing a black and red checked shirt at the time of his disappearance and usually wears blue jeans or black work trousers.

Inspector Les Davidson of Police Scotland said: “We are increasingly concerned about Mr Paton who has now been missing overnight. This is completely out of character.

“He was known to walk in the wooded area where his car was found but his family believe that he would have stuck to recognised paths.

“If anyone was out walking in the area and saw Mr Paton I would urge them to get in touch.

“If anyone sees him or Mr Paton himself sees this appeal, then please call us on 101, quoting incident 3111 of Monday 23 December.”

Kiltarlity is located 12 miles west of Inverness on the Bruiach Burn and has a population of just under 1,000 people.
