Minor knee procedure sidelines Bucs first-round pick Joe Tryon

TAMPA — Evidently, the first player drafted by the Bucs will be the last to put on a pewter helmet.
Washington edge rusher Joe Tryon, selected with the No. 32 overall pick by the Bucs on April 29, joined his peers at the opening day of the team’s rookie minicamp Friday but didn’t participate outside of some solitary jogging.
“He still hasn’t passed his physical,” coach Bruce Arians said after Friday’s on-field workout, which lasted a little more than an hour. “He had a slight (knee) scope and he’s real close, but we’re not going to take any chances.”
Arians didn’t specify on which knee Tryon had the procedure but indicated it was performed three or four weeks ago. He opted out of the Huskies’ 2020 season following a breakthrough sophomore season (12.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks) in 2019.
No date has been set for Tryon to re-take the physical, Arians added. “We’re going to take it slow. He will be ready for (early June’s) mandatory minicamp for sure, maybe sooner.”
