Shelter cat goes viral after continuously freeing fellow animals: ‘He has no shame’

A 6-year-old cat named Quilty has taken the internet by storm after an animal shelter revealed his devious, jailbreaking exploit.

The domestic short-haired cat, who lives at the Friends For Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Organization in Houston, Texas, is apparently so skilled at freeing his fellow felines that the shelter was forced to "Quilty-proof" his room.

In a Facebook post shared late last month, the shelter wrote that the 6-year-old had become notorious for his ability to not only escape multiple times a day, but also to liberate other animals in the process.

"Quilty will not be contained. And he has no shame," the shelter's post read. "Quilty loves to let cats out of the senior room. Repeatedly. Several times a day."

It's apparently a skill he's been developing for quite some time. The shelter wrote that Quilty previously lived with a dog, which his former owners said he would let out constantly.

The original post revealing Quilty's hobby has now been shared more than 17,000 times, and the shelter has continued to post updates on his most recent schemes.

"UPDATE: This mother-effer got out. We perp-walked him back to the room," the shelter shared along with a video of Quilty being carried back to his room.

"Today's update: Quilty now believes he can definitely escape through the windows... While we doubt it, he's surprised us before," another update, also posted to Instagram, read.

Quilty's newfound fame may have even found him a home. The shelter posted an update on Tuesday sharing that the feline had gone for a "sleepover" — usually a one-week trial period — with a potential owner.

"He hasn’t shown any slickness at all yet; he is the most loving and affectionate cat I have ever met," Quilty's potential new owner told the shelter.

If Quilty ends up with those new owners, he'd take a massive social media following along with him. The shelter launched an Instagram page for the now-infamous cat called "Free Quilty," which now has more than 32,000 followers.

The account, launched on Nov. 4, shares consistent updates about Quilty's life, his escape attempts and all of the attention he's gotten since first going viral.

Quilty's Instagram page also provides further insight into exactly how he pulls off his incredible breakouts. It appears the cat is extremely skilled at pulling the door handle at the shelter's cat room, which has allowed him to let out himself and his fellow felines time and time again.

"Never give up on your dreams. This is my technique. I'm just WAITING for them to forget to use this stupid lock thing..." one post, shared last weekend, read.
