Millions of Ohioans expected to hit the road this holiday; The best times to travel

Starting Thursday, millions of Americans are expected to start heading to their Fourth of July destinations.

An expert with AAA said gas prices aren’t going to keep people off the roads.

More people are expected to travel this year for the holiday than they did before the pandemic, according to AAA.

“People were really ready to get back together with family and friends ready to take those vacations that they put off for the for the last two years,” Kara Hitchens, public affairs manager of AAA said.

More than 2 million Ohioans alone will bet traveling this weekend.

Thursday and Friday are expected to be the busiest days for travel, Hitchens said.

The best times to travel this holiday according to AAA are:

  • Thursday before 7 a.m. and after 8 p.m.

  • Friday before 10 a.m. and after 9 p.m.

  • Saturday before 12 p.m. and after 7 p.m.

Hitchens said there are a few reasons traveling by car is more popular this year than booking a flight.

Such as staffing shortages, weather-related delays and people not wanting to risk their flights getting canceled.

Thursday morning nationwide, more than 200 flights are canceled according to flightaware.com.

So while gas prices are high, by driving people have control over getting to their destinations, Hitchens explained.
