Millersport news: Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Saturday

The Millersport Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will be held at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, at Miller Park located on Lancaster Street in Millersport. Santa arrives at 5:50 p.m. with the tree lighting at 6 p.m. All are invited to enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and Christmas caroling.

Fish fry

Millersport American Legion Post #637 will hold its monthly all-you-can-eat fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 in the Legion Hall, 2557 Canal Drive in Millersport. The cost of the meal is $10 for adults and $7 for children ages 12 and younger. Carry out meals are available. The public is welcome.

Christmas breakfast and elf shelf

Join the Millersport Lions Club on Saturday for the Christmas Breakfast from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The Elf Shelf starts at 9 a.m. and runs through 11:30 a.m. Enjoy a visit with Santa.

The breakfast menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, biscuits, sausage gravy, sausage links, milk and juice. A donation of $5 is suggested. Kids 2 and younger eat free. The meat is donated by Bowers & Sons so keep Bowers & Sons in mind for all your meats and processing of your hunting skills.

Shopping the Elf Shelf is available for children through age 12. They may enter once. Elves will be available to help shop and gift wrap the presents. Adults are not allowed in the Elf Shelf!

The Millersport Lions Club wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Wonderful New Year. All proceeds go to the Lions Club sponsored charities.

Senior citizens

The Millersport Senior Citizens met Dec. 3 with 25 members present. The potluck lunch featured spaghetti as the main entrée. Judy Harris and Evelyn Worrell served on the Kitchen Committee.

Member concerns included Gail Barber, Martha Lutz, Bert Severance and Elizabeth Shover. Those with December birthdays were Karen Mosier, Richard Neff, Carol Kitzmiller, Kim Lutz, Frances Runkel and Carol King. Liz and Larry Sanders were recognized celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Plans were finalized for the Christmas dinner at the Dec. 17 meeting. The food will be catered by Bob Evans. It was decided the club would not purchase an entrée for the January and February meetings due the uncertainty of the weather. Members were asked to sign up to serve on the Kitchen Committee for 2022. Door prizes were won by Peggy Rosser, Evelyn Worrell, Helen Hart, Rosie Brookover, Floyd Hart, Terri Staley, and Barb Vohlringer. The meeting was adjourned for cards and Bingo.

Walnut Township

The Safety Advisory Committee of Walnut Township met Nov. 30. The committee has been formed as a committee of the trustees to allow a broad spectrum of township representatives and to advise the trustees in matters pertaining to the Fire Department and safety concerns of the township. The committee consists of seven members representing all areas of the township. Village appointees are Pleasantville Mayor Jason Henderson, Thurston Councilman Scott Whited, Millersport Councilman Tom Cumbow, Fairfield Beach resident Daria Arbogast, Rural Residents Jason Thomas and David Zollinger, and Trustee Bill Yates. Bill Yates was chosen to act as Chairman, Jason Thomas will serve as Vice Chairman and Jason Henderson will serve as secretary. A fire service update was given by Walnut Township Fire Chief Bob Price and Trustee Yates. Meetings of the committee will always be open to the public.
