Miller all-state receiver Lonnie Adkism verbally commits to Sam Houston State

Miller all-state senior receiver Lonnie Adkism took to social media on Sunday afternoon to announce his commitment to Sam Houston State.

The school, which won a FCS national championship in spring 2021, has joined Conference USA and is transitioning to FBS.

Adkism is the latest Buccaneers receiver to get an opportunity to play at the next level, including Bubba Lloyd, Cassius Clay and Adraean Lloyd in recent years.

The senior receiver hauled in 93 receptions for 1,638 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2021 to earn first-team all-state honors in Class 4A from the Texas Sports Writers Association for the second time.

Adkism has compiled 3,387 yards going into this fall and has a chance to finish among the state's all-time receiving yardage leaders with a strong 2022 season.

Miller returns to Class 5A this fall against its CCISD brethren, competing in District 14-5A Division I. The Bucs open the season Aug. 26 at Rockport-Fulton.
