STORY: Microsoft plans to cut thousands of jobs across different divisions, according to multiple media reports on Tuesday.
The expected layoffs would be just the latest in the U.S. technology sector, with Amazon and Meta recently announcing their own job cuts, amid a worsening global economic outlook.
U.K broadcaster Sky News reported, citing sources, that Microsoft plans to cut about 5% of its workforce, or about 11,000 roles.
Other reports suggested jobs would be cut in a number of engineering division, and recruitment staff were also facing the chop.
Microsoft is under pressure to maintain growth rates at its cloud unit Azure, after several quarters of downturn in the personal computer market hurt Windows and devices sales.
The tech giant declined to comment on the reports of the job cuts.
Analysts say the pending round of layoffs suggest the tech sector is struggling from slower demand and will continue to shed jobs.
