Michigan Rural Enhanced Access to Careers in Healthcare (MiREACH) addresses critical health care workforce shortages in Michigan’s rural communities by providing support for the education and training needed to get started in a variety of in-demand health care careers.

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, Workforce Development (LEO-WD) was awarded a $2.5 million, four‑year, U.S. Department of Labor H-1B Rural Healthcare Grant to address health care staffing shortages in rural communities through the MiREACH project.

Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium, covering the eight counties of lower northeast Michigan (including Alpena, Alcona, Cheboygan, Crawford, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego and Presque Isle) is one of only four Michigan Works! agencies across the state to be awarded this subgrant.

The MiREACH program funds on-the-job training, education and supportive services to overcome barriers to attaining health care jobs. Participant support may include tuition payments, clothing, supplies, mileage reimbursement and more.

Those interested in career training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), medical assistant, sterile processing technician, phlebotomist, substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors or medical technician can reach out to Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium for more information on the MiREACH program.
