MORE SPARTANS: Michigan State basketball must recover for Big Ten play after 'bombardment' at Notre Dame

Game notes: Michigan State lost its last game, 70-52, to Notre Dame as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. A.J. Hoggard led the Spartans with 15 points, while Cormac Ryan had 23 points to lead the Irish. MSU had a few much-needed days off after playing three games in less than a week as part of the Phil King Invitational.

The Wildcats lost a heartbreaker to No. 13 Auburn then were blown out by Pitt. Senior guard Boo Buie (12.9 points per game and 4.4 assists per game) and Chase Audige (12.4 ppg and 4.1 apg) are back to lead Northwestern, which has a stingy defense, allowing 56.7 points, 13th-best in the country.

Next up for MSU is a road game Wednesday vs. Penn State; Northwestern gets a week's rest before hosting Prairie View.
