Michigan State basketball to host open practice before Oct. 2 homecoming football game

It won’t be the traditional midnight madness or primetime debut, but Michigan State basketball still will make a public debut for its fans.

The Spartan men’s and women’s teams will hold an open practice Oct. 2 before the football team hosts Western Kentucky for homecoming at 7:30 that night. Admission is free, and Breslin Center doors open at 2 p.m.

Suzy Merchant’s women’s team will practice for an hour beginning at 2:15 p.m., followed by Tom Izzo’s men’s squad around 3:15 p.m.

MSU will open its football tailgating lots at 1 p.m. for those with parking passes. Others without passes may park in public access pay lots, including at Cherry Lane Field on the southeast corner of Harrison Road and Shaw Lane.

The Spartans will open basketball practice for the 2021-22 season Nov. 9 against Kansas in the Champions Classic in New York.
