Michigan football added a new piece to its 2022 recruiting class Sunday with a verbal commitment from Madison (Alabama) Academy linebacker Deuce Spurlock. He announced the commitment on his Twitter account.

A 6-2, 200-pound linebacker, Spurlock is rated as a three-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He held additional scholarship offers from Auburn, Boston College, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, South Florida and Washington State, among others.

Spurlock took his official visit to Ann Arbor over the weekend.

Members of the Michigan coaching staff and recruiting department cannot reference unsigned athletes in public, but director of player personnel Courtney Morgan expressed his delight in cryptic fashion with a message on Twitter.

Spurlock played both sides of the ball for Madison during the 2019-20 season. On defense, where Spurlock will play in college, he made 25 tackles and had one interception in 10 games. And on offense, where he played primarily as a wide receiver, Spurlock caught 44 passes for 559 yards and one touchdown, according to MaxPreps.

This season, Spurlock had a standout performance against North Jackson High School in which he made 21 tackles and had three sacks.
