Michelle Yeoh shares excitement for 'Asian-looking elf' role in Netflix's 'The Witcher: Blood Origin'

International superstar Michelle Yeoh has revealed why she’s excited to play "an Asian-looking elf" in the upcoming fantasy miniseries “The Witcher: Blood Origin.”

A prequel to the Netflix hit show “The Witcher,” the new series takes place 1,200 years before the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, the franchise protagonist previously portrayed by Henry Cavill. “Blood Origin,” which further explores “The Witcher” lore established in Andrzej Sapkowski's novels, features Yeo as the elf Scian, the last living member of the Ghost Tribe.

Yeoh gushed about her new role during a recent interview with E! News, noting that there’s not a lot of “Asian-looking elf running around.”

“I love this whole world of magic and monsters and defeating them, but I also wanted to learn why there were these monsters,” Yeoh said. “In 'Blood Origin,' you'll find out, and it was a really exciting journey to be a part of."

If the recent teasers and trailers are any indication, Yeoh’s character is set to play a significant role in the four-part series’ narrative.

“The Witcher: Blood Origin,” which debuts on the streaming platform on Dec. 25, also stars Sophia Brown, Minnie Driver, Laurence O'Fuarain, Lenny Henry, and Mirren Mack.

Yeoh also gave an update on the highly anticipated “Crazy Rich Asians” sequel, sharing that she and the rest of the cast are still “waiting on it.”

"We know there's a writer on it, so we'll see” Yeoh was quoted by E! News as saying. “Fingers crossed."

The sequel is being written by writer-director Amy Wang and is based on Kevin Kwan's second book in the “Crazy Rich Asians” series, “China Rich Girlfriend.” Yeoh is expected to reprise her role as Eleanor Sung-Young, the mother of Henry Golding’s character Nick.

Yeoh, who was just named Time magazine’s Icon of the Year for 2022, has a number of projects lined up in the coming years, including “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” “American Born Chinese” and “Avatars 3, 4 and 5,” among others.
