Former first lady Michelle Obama is launching a new series on Instagram that will follow the journey of students around the country as they take on their freshman year of college.

The six-episode IGTV series, which is produced by ATTN: in partnership with Obama’s Reach Higher program, is called "A Year of Firsts." The show will share "the stories and experiences of four first-year college students," Obama says in the trailer released Tuesday.

"Each of them has overcome tremendous odds to get where they are," Obama continues. "And throughout the year, they'll tell us what that first year of college is really like. The ups, the downs, and everything in between."

The trailer shows the four students going about a normal college day — everything from going to classes, studying, working and chugging coffee.

The project is personal for Obama, who was a first-generation college herself and knows how "intimidating" it can be to "take that leap and pursue your educational dreams."

"That’s why I’m so proud of these students," the former first lady said in a statement. "By sharing their stories, they’re helping others see that the ups and downs of the first year of college are something everyone goes through — and they’re creating a supportive community for others facing similar challenges."

The show will premiere in mid-January and run through June.
