Sioux Falls is slowly becoming the sweetest city in South Dakota as a Nebraska-based ice cream proprietor looks to expand.

The owners of La Real Michoacana de Zitacuaro Mexican ice cream shop in South Sioux City applied for a building permit with the city of Sioux Falls on Aug. 10. The store would be located at 523 W. 10th St. near downtown.

The new ice cream parlor will be called El Chamoy.

The 1,586 square-foot building was once 1st Wok Chinese Restaurant, which closed its business after a fire in 2018.

According to La Real Michoacana's Facebook page, the menu includes items like homemade ice cream treats, artisanal fruit popsicles, ice cream-topped crepes and parfaits. La Real Michoacana also serves Mexican street corn and Michelagua drinks.

A timeline for opening has not yet been determined.
