Met Gala 2020 theme revealed -- here's the legendary face hosting next year's star-studded bash

The Met Gala 2020's theme has been revealed -- and it seems it's perfectly on-brand for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which will mark its 150 anniversary next year.

It was revealed on Thursday that the theme for next year's annual star-studded event is "About Time: Fashion and Duration," and will be co-chaired by Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Louis Vuitton designer Nicolas Ghesquière. The event held on May 4 will mark Miranda and Streep's Met Gala debut, while Stone has been a red carpet fixture in the past.

The extravagant night will coincide with the institution's spring exhibit, which will be under the direction of curator Andrew Bolton. "Fashion is indelibly connected to time," he said in a statement.

"It not only reflects and represents the spirit of the times, but it also changes and develops with the times, serving as an especially sensitive and accurate timepiece. Through a series of chronologies, the exhibition will use the concept of duration to analyze the temporal twists and turns of fashion history," he continued about the inspiration for this year's theme, which was derived from the 1992 Sally Potter film "Orlando."

Explained Bolton, according to Vogue:

“There’s a wonderful scene in which Tilda Swinton enters the maze in an 18th-century woman’s robe à la Francaise, and as she runs through it, her clothes change to mid-19th-century dress, and she reemerges in 1850s England. That’s where the original idea came from.”

The exhibition will be designed by famed British stage designer Es Devlin and will showcase 160 pieces on the evolution of fashion.
