Foll0wing the debut of How I Met Your Father, protagonist Hilary Duff is looking back on another nostalgic revival that almost happened.
The actress was set to reprise her role in a reboot of Lizzie McGuire, a more adult version of the beloved teen comedy series that was supposed to air on Disney+.
However, original showrunner Terri Minsky left the project a few months after filming had begun over creative differences. The series never moved forward, with Duff only recently spilling the beans on the plotline.
According to Duff, the new Lizzie McGuire would have seen its leading lady dealing with a cheating fiancé.
"My character was moving back home with her parents because she caught her soon-to-be fiancé cheating on her, and she was falling flat on her face at the moment and being like, 'I need to pivot because everything that I thought was wasn't, and I'm turning 30. What the f**k?'" Duff told Cosmopolitan.
The actress couldn't conceal her disappointment over the reboot's fate and also revealed she had thought about leaking the episodes she had filmed.
"I would be lying if I didn't say I didn't have those thoughts a few times," she said about leaking the episodes.
"But I wouldn't, because in my 34 years I've realised that everything does happen for a reason. There's a time and a place for everything. It just wasn't her moment."
Duff added: "I'm constantly asked about it still. All it does is breathe life into the fact that people still want it, and that's really sweet. It's not dead, and it's not alive."
How I Met Your Father airs Tuesdays on Hulu in the US, and is streaming on Disney+ in the UK with new episodes every Wednesday.
