MEN'S BASKETBALL: Idaho holds off UND
Dec. 7—MOSCOW, Idaho — In a game that featured six lead changes, Idaho managed to hang on to beat UND 76-66 on Tuesday night.
The Fighting Hawks (5-6) had a one-point edge on the scoreboard at intermission but Idaho (4-5) went on 10-0 run midway through the second half to claim a 57-51 lead. UND trimmed the deficit to five late in the game but was not able to overcome the run, ultimately falling by 10..
B.J. Omot
paced the Hawks, scoring 15 points. He played a team-high 35 minutes and led the Fighting Hawks in both rebounds (7) and blocks (2).
Jalun Trent
recorded a career-high 13 points, throwing down eight points in the second half alone. He dished out a team leading five assists and pulled in six boards.
Elijah Brooks
came off the bench and poured in a season-high 13 points, going 6-for-9 from the field.
Matt Norman
was just shy of double figures, adding eight points and two triples.
In the game, North Dakota shot 48.8 percent from the field (26-for-58), recorded eight makes from deep and went 6-for-14 at the free throw line. Idaho made 45.3 percent of its shots (24-for-53), knocked down 10 makes from three-point land and went 18-for-24 at the stripe.
The Fighting Hawks won the rebounding battle by a 38-22 margin. UND also finished with a 28-26 edge in the paint. The Vandals had nine steals and scored 15 points off Fighting Hawk turnovers. Meanwhile, UND had five steals and exchanged them for nine points.
UND will take on Seattle on Saturday at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
