Memphis liquor stores offer $25K reward after string of burglaries

Memphis liquor store owners are uniting to put thirsty thieves behind bars. after dozens of stores across Memphis were burglarized.

Buster Liquors and Wines on South Highland Street is beefing up security after a smash and grab last week.

“We’re going to have off-hours surveillance. We’re going to have someone monitoring our property. It’s a new technology called Archive Defense,” said Josh Hammond, the manager of Busters Liquors and Wines.

Surveillance video shows three vehicles back up to the entrance, pop open the trunk, and then a thief takes a sledgehammer to the front window. About ten people swarmed the store.

“They literally brought in plastic laundry baskets. Some had sacks. Some took our baskets,” said Hammond.

The suspects got away with more than $15,000 worth of liquor.

“Our video that we have really has brought this to the limelight for a lot of folks in our community,” said Hammond.

Hammond said since May, more than 40 liquor stores across Memphis have been burglarized.

Crimestoppers is now offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

“The retailers have come together and put up $25,000. These are just the liquor store retailers in the city of Memphis that will hopefully lead to the arrest of multiple individuals,” said Hammond.
