Memphis football defensive back Joshua Hastings announced Saturday via Twitter that he's entered the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.

Hastings, a former Cordova High standout, started five games this season and appeared in eight overall with 27 tackles and three pass breakups. The sophomore appeared in 15 games over three seasons.

Hastings is the latest Tigers player to enter the transfer portal after kicker David Kemp and defensive tackle Cameron Blaylock did so this week. The portal officially opens at midnight Monday morning.

The Tigers' secondary struggled with injuries all season and Hasting missed four of the team's last five games. But His departure adds to some of the depth issues facing the position entering 2023.

All-AAC senior safety Quindell Johnson will not return along with fellow defensive backs Sylvonta Oliver and Rodney Owens, who have exhausted their eligibility. Junior cornerback Davion Ross, who earned All-AAC honorable mention honors, is among the returners.
