Melissa Etheridge announces solo Off-Broadway show

Melissa Etheridge plans to be “the only one” to rock Off-Broadway this fall.
The Grammy and Academy Award-winning singer-songwriter announced that she will take centerstage for a theatrical-styled, solo show, titled “Melissa Etheridge Off Broadway: My Window — A Journey Through Life.”
Written by Etheridge with additional material by her wife, Linda Wallem-Etheridge, the Amy Tinkham-helmed production will play a limited engagement at the New World Stages beginning Oct. 13.
“My Window” will include tales of her childhood in Kansas, groundbreaking career highlights and music from the 61-year-old breast cancer survivor and LGBTQ+ icon, who sang songs such as “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window.”
“While I’ve been telling my life stories through my lyrics and concert tours for many years, this is going to be something new for me. I cannot wait to feel the exchange of energy and deep connection that’s provided by an intimate theatre experience. That’s going to rock,” Etheridge said with Monday’s announcement.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this great event,” former Live Nation chief Michael Cohl, who is producing the show, commented. “Melissa Etheridge — a story of courage, struggle, and triumph. This will be a magical, emotionally fulfilling night.”
The 12-performance run will play to an intimate audience of fewer than 500 per show at the former 50th St. movie theater, which recently housed Laiona Michelle’s sublime Nina Simone-based musical “Little Girl Blue” last spring.
Tickets go on sale Aug. 17.
